Stanhope Elmore finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 2-7 record. Last year Stanhope Elmore finished seventh in Class 6A region two with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. No team at Stanhope Elmore ever lost more games in a season than the seven they lost last year. Since 2010, Stanhope Elmore has gone a combined 33-31. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 6A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Stanhope Elmore has managed to compile a record of 182-103. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 6A and 62nd in the AHSAA. Jeff Foshee resigned his position as the head football coach at Stanhope Elmore in early June 2016. He spent the past 16 seasons as the head coach with a record of 105-72 including 8-12 in the playoffs. His 2015 team finished with a 2-7 record as the Mustangs missed the post season for the third time in the past five seasons. Mike Dean returns to the coaching ranks in 2016 as the head coach at Stanhope Elmore. He has an overall record of 55-20 at Daleville, McGill-Toolen, Valley and Charles Henderson in six seasons. His 2013 team at Charles Henderson reached the Super Six finals before falling to Oneonta 28-10. Coach Dean's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 55-20 (73.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Dean's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times and won three region championships. The Stanhope Elmore Mustangs will play in Class 6A region two during the 2016 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Mustangs if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season. After just 2 wins last year, Stanhope Elmore will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Mustangs open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Prattville on Friday, August 26 at Foshee-Henderson Stadium. Last year the Prattville Lions finished with an overall record of 6-4 and in fifth place in Class 7A region two. The Lions ended last season on a positive note with a win over Valley by a score of 34-7 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Stanhope Elmore and Prattville have met a total of 45 times on the football field. The Mustangs have a 11-33-1 record against the Lions.
